At a meeting held on August 20th, the Palau Council of Chiefs engaged in a significant discussion with the Taiwan-Palau Ocean Science Education Center, during which the upcoming Palau Ocean Science Education Program was introduced.

Professor Hung Chin-Chang, Director of the Taiwan-Palau Ocean Science Education Center, and doctoral student Vicente Abedneko presented the various aspects of the program to the Palau Council of Chiefs. The program includes:

1. Marine Science Education: Enhancing the understanding and awareness of the marine ecosystem among the Palauan society, particularly the younger generation.
2. Establishment of Long-Term Hydrological Monitoring Stations: Setting up and maintaining hydrological monitoring stations to continuously monitor and analyze real-time marine environmental data. During extreme rainfall or heatwaves, the program will collect marine environmental parameters and observe the impact of these extreme weather events on marine life.
3. Indigenous Knowledge: Conducting interviews with Palauan indigenous communities to explore the traditional wisdom accumulated in response to oceanic changes.

"The Palau Ocean Science Education Program will become a cornerstone for promoting ocean conservation awareness," emphasized Professor Hung Chin-Chang of the Taiwan-Palau Ocean Science Education Center during the meeting. "Through this program, we hope to not only enhance understanding of the marine ecosystem but also inspire the next generation to become active participants in ocean conservation."

The Palau Council of Chiefs expressed strong interest and support for the program and offered constructive feedback for its future implementation. Attendees agreed that this educational program would have a positive impact on Palau’s future development and environmental protection.
